As a Senior Scientist, you will lead and execute on projects to design, develop, and apply innovative AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and foundation models, to tackle complex challenges in the energy sector. Your work will span the entire research arenaflex, from fundamental theoretical and empirical investigations to prototyping and solution development. You will shape priorities, define problem worth solving, and work on diverse projects with applications in power generation, renewable energy, electric grids, robotics, manufacturing, and internal business processes. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders from GE Vernova's business units and a broad network of researchers across disciplines and domains. Additionally, you will contribute to cutting-edge research programs with external partners in academia and government, driving the advancement of AI research at GE Vernova and pushing the boundaries of human scientific understanding globally. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities • Research, conceptualize, and develop AI solutions for hard industrial problems • Lead projects and collaborate with teams of peer researchers on new and continuing projects ensuring alignment with strategic objectives • Work independently as well as guide development of new technologies to demonstrate and realize value of AI through early prototypes and solutions for real-world problems • Mentor early-career researchers to be effective in project execution and supp-ort their technical growth • Employ software libraries, tools, and practices to implement efficient, scalable, and reusable solutions • Create intellectual property by writing invention disclosures and filing patents • Publish research work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals • Write grant proposals and support execution of R&D programs Required Qualifications • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields and a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence OR MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields with a minimum of 8 years of work experience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence • Demonstrated ability to write Python code and hands-on development of AI solutions • Demonstrated ability to lead AI projects • Familiarity with GenAI packages including models from OpenAI, arenaflex, Meta, etc. and ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc. • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Please note that citizens of these countries who have either “U.S. person” status under U.S. export control laws or subsequent citizenship or permanent residency from a non-restricted country can be considered. • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY Desired Characteristics • Completed PhD focused on new advancements in Artificial Intelligence • Experience in one or more of: (a) Multi-Modal Foundation Models with image, text, tabular data, and/or time-series data, (b) Integrating generative AI with knowledge graphs and graph-based reasoning, and (c) Integrating physics and domain knowledge in scalable machine learning solutions. • Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders to define problems worth solving and to share progress and outcomes • Experience in leading research efforts and collaborating with researchers. • Experience in writing grant proposals and participating in the execution of grant-supported research; includes demonstrated successful communication with government agencies such as DoE, ARPA-E, DoD, and DARPA • Contribution to public domain codebases and/or significant GitHub portfolio The base pay range for this position is 111,200.00 - 185,400.00 USD USD, Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s education and skill set. This position may also be eligible for a sign on incentive and new hire equity grant based on meeting certain eligibility criteria. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
