PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Fresenius Medical Care Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) research and development (R&D) is currently hiring for a Lab Research Associate position to be based at the Renal Research Institute (RRI) in NYC. This on-site position requires a commitment of at least 30 hours per week, with a minimum of 4 days per week, and is expected to last until at least 9-12 months, with the potential for an extension based on needs. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field are encouraged to apply, and a master's degree is preferred. The selected associate will actively contribute to experiment design and execution, and data analysis as part of the dynamic R&D team. Proficiency in lab techniques and dedication to safety and ethical practices are essential. Independence, effective communication and problem-solving skills will be crucial for collaborative success in this exciting research opportunity. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Experimental Design and Execution: Collaborate on experimental design and execute experiments in a Research and Development (R&D) environment aimed to evaluate various sensors. Data Collection and Analysis: Record data, analyze results, and contribute to the interpretation of findings. Quality Control: Implement and adhere to quality control measures to ensure reproducibility. Troubleshooting: Identify and address issues that may arise during experiments. Communication and Documentation: Maintain detailed records, effectively communicate results, and contribute to team discussions. Administrative Support: Assist in coordinating with suppliers, managing orders and ensuring the procurement of lab equipment, chemicals as well as other necessary materials necessary for research or operations. Collaborate on establishing essential resources for study projects. Other duties as assigned EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is preferred) in engineering, mechatronics, biotechnology, or similar disciplines preferred. EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel Advanced knowledge and experience with data and statistical analysis Strong computational and programming skills (MATLAB or Python) Familiarity with laboratory equipment Ability to maintain organization and accuracy of experimental procedures and records Keeping a lab notebook in a well-organized manner Adherence to standard laboratory protocols to ensure compliance and accuracy in operations Ability to troubleshoot issues related to laboratory instrumentation and independently address challenges related to device assessments Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and present findings Writing skills for documenting protocols, reports, and research papers Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation, data analysis, and presentations Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges that may arise during experiments PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Demands: Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods while performing laboratory tasks. Frequent use of hands and fine motor skills for handling laboratory instruments and using a computer. Occasional lifting or moving of laboratory equipment or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity for detailed observations, including (but not limited to) microscopical work and reading small print or digital screens. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a laboratory environment. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required. Adherence to strict safety and aseptic protocols to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Occasional extended hours or flexible schedules may be required to meet research or project deadlines.
