<b>General Purpose</b><br><br>The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is responsible to plan and implement facility orientation, job skills training, in-service education, and a Certification Training Program (if applicable) for the nursing assistants as required by regulations. Work with the Director of Nursing (DON) and Administrator to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The DSD also provides direct resident/patient care.<br><br><b>Essential Duties</b><br><ul><li>Coordinate and participate in the recruiting and hiring of staff.</li><li>Coordinate completion of and process employment-related documentation.</li><li>Coordinate payroll and employee benefit programs.</li><li>Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families to work cooperatively with other employees.</li><li>Plan, conduct, and document and/or coordinate all required Fire/Internal Disaster and External Mass Casualty Drills.</li><li>Maintain neat, clean, well-groomed, professional appearance.</li><li>Capable of generating enthusiasm and developing a cooperative relationship with employees.</li><li>Utilize information from Licensing and Certification Surveys, Employee Evaluations, Facility Rounds, and recommendations from the Administrator and department heads to identify education needs.</li><li>Organize in-service education programs for staff including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of education provided.</li><li>Prepare annual in-service schedule.</li><li>Prepare and post a monthly in-service calendar.</li><li>Maintain records of in-services as required by regulations.</li><li>Plan and conduct meaningful in-service education programs according to requirements for nursing personnel and all facility staff to assure competency in new skills, and as directed by the Administrator.</li><li>Make rounds and observe delivery of patient care.</li><li>Coordinate infection control surveillance program.</li><li>Supervise staff, including taking or assisting with appropriate disciplinary measures.</li><li>Complete all forms required by the Department of Health in relation to the in-service and education programs.</li><li>Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.</li><li>Provide direct resident/patient care.</li><li>Must maintain employee/resident/patient confidentiality at all times.</li></ul><br><br><b>Supervisory Requirements</b><br><br>Assist with the overall supervision and management of the staff.<br><br><b>Qualification</b><br><br>Education and/or Experience<br><br>Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and possession of a valid license from the state to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse (LVN or LPN). BSN preferred.<br><br>One (1) year of experience providing direct patient care in a long-term care facility, in addition to one (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing.<br><br>Two (2) or more years of experience preferred, preferably in a long-term care facility.<br><br>Language Skills<br><br>Ability to read technical procedures.<br><br>Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.<br><br>Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.<br><br>Mathematical Skills<br><br>Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.<br><br>Reasoning Ability<br><br>Ability to solve practical problems.<br><br>Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.<br><br>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations<br><br>Current Registered Nursing License (RN) or LVN/LPN License.<br><br>Current CPR certification.<br><br>Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.<br><br>Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing.<br><br>Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times.<br><br><b>Physical Demands</b><br><br>The essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:<br><ul><li>Standing and/or walking very frequently.</li><li>Sitting occasionally.</li><li>Reaching with hands and arms frequently; pushing/pulling very frequently.</li><li>Talking and/or hearing very frequently.</li><li>Tasting and/or smelling very frequently.</li><li>Lifting up to 75 pounds frequently.</li><li>Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling occasionally.</li><li>Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision; ability to adjust focus.</li></ul><br><br><b>Work Environment</b><br><br>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
