<p><strong>Contract Data Engineer (GCP / BigQuery)</strong></p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Hybrid - Southampton (initial on-site scoping required)<br> <strong>Duration:</strong> 2 months<br> <strong>IR35 Status:</strong> Small Company Exemption<br><strong>Start:</strong> ASAP</p><p> </p><p><strong>Overview</strong></p><p>We are supporting a client that are embarking on the initial build of a centralised data platform within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). To support, they require an experienced Contract Data Engineer to lead the design and initial implementation of a scalable data platform, enabling trusted reporting across clinical, operational, commercial and finance functions.</p><p>This engagement will focus on establishing strong data foundations, governance, and an initial BI reporting layer.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Design and implement a GCP-native data platform, centred around BigQuery</li><li>Build data ingestion pipelines, including integration of financial data from Stripe</li><li>Work closely with Finance and business stakeholders to define core business metrics and data points</li><li>Move reporting workloads away from production systems into a structured warehouse environment</li><li>Design logical dataset layering (raw → cleaned → curated)</li><li>Develop SQL-first transformation pipelines within BigQuery</li><li>Establish data quality checks and monitoring processes</li><li>Create a curated BI-ready data layer</li><li>Support development of initial dashboards (Looker Studio preferred)</li><li>Define data governance, ownership and metric definitions</li><li>Produce clear architectural documentation and handover materials</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Required Experience</strong></p><ul><li>Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer within cloud environments</li><li>Proven delivery using Google Cloud Platform (GCP)</li><li>Deep experience with BigQuery</li><li>Experience building scalable ELT/ETL data pipelines</li><li>Strong SQL and data modelling capability</li><li>Experience integrating third-party SaaS platforms (e.g. Stripe or similar)</li></ul><p>Spectrum IT Recruitment (South) Limited is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.</p>
